Salary: NZ$32 per hour, depending on qualifications, skills and relevant experience

About Thai Kitchen Dine In & Takeaway

Thai Kitchen Dine In & Takeaway, operated by Sayanju Company Limited, is a growing Thai restaurant providing dine-in and takeaway services.

We are seeking an experienced and capable Restaurant Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management and operation of our restaurant.

This is a genuine, full-time management position requiring strong hospitality management, staff leadership, financial administration, customer service, and operational skills.

Position: Restaurant Manager

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing and coordinating the restaurant's daily operations and ensuring that the business operates efficiently while maintaining high standards of food quality, customer service, health and safety, and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall day-to-day operation of the restaurant
  • Manage both dine-in and takeaway services
  • Supervise, coordinate, and motivate restaurant employees
  • Prepare staff rosters and coordinate staffing requirements
  • Assist with recruitment, induction, training, and performance management of employees
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels during busy and quiet periods
  • Monitor and maintain high standards of customer service
  • Handle customer enquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally
  • Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure efficient food preparation and service
  • Monitor food quality, presentation, portion control, and consistency
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, health and safety, and workplace requirements
  • Manage purchasing, supplier relationships, stock ordering, receiving, and inventory
  • Monitor food costs, wastage, labour costs, and other operating expenses
  • Monitor daily sales and restaurant performance
  • Manage cash handling, EFTPOS transactions, banking, and daily financial records
  • Prepare operational and financial reports for the company directors
  • Assist with budgeting, cost control, and financial planning
  • Maintain accurate business and employment records
  • Use Xero accounting software for accounting and financial administration
  • Process and monitor supplier invoices, bills, expenses, payments, and reconciliations using Xero
  • Liaise with the company's accountant or accounting provider when required
  • Ensure the restaurant is clean, organised, safe, and professionally presented
  • Open and close the restaurant as required
  • Identify opportunities to improve restaurant efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction
  • Report regularly to the company directors regarding operational and financial performance

Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience

The successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of a Restaurant Manager and should have:

  • At least 2 years of relevant restaurant or hospitality experience, or a relevant qualification at NZQCF Level 4 or above
  • Proven experience in restaurant operations,
  • Strong staff leadership and people-management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer-service and problem-solving skills
  • Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety
  • Experience with stock control and purchasing
  • Experience monitoring food costs, wastage, sales, and profitability
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Practical accounting and bookkeeping experience
  • Experience using Xero accounting software
  • Ability to process invoices, expenses, supplier payments, reconciliations, and financial records using Xero
  • Understanding of profit and loss statements, revenue, expenses, budgeting, and cost control
  • Experience using POS and restaurant management systems
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office or equivalent
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate management decisions
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy restaurant environment
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays when required

Desirable Skills & Experience

The following will be advantageous:

  • Experience in Thai or Asian restaurant
  • Relevant hospitality, restaurant management, business, or accounting qualification
  • Experience with payroll and staff administration
  • Experience with New Zealand restaurant operations
  • Experience managing food and labour budgets
  • Experience dealing with suppliers and negotiating prices
  • Experience improving restaurant profitability and operational efficiency

Minimum Employment Requirements

This is a full-time position with a minimum of 30 hours per week.

The successful applicant must have the qualifications, skills, and/or relevant work experience necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Applicants who have relevant overseas experience are welcome to apply, provided they can demonstrate that their experience is directly relevant to the Restaurant Manager position.

Applicants must also have the legal right to work in New Zealand, or be eligible for an appropriate New Zealand work visa.

NZ$32/hour
