Full job description
If you're the type of person who can strike up a conversation with anyone, loves helping customers and enjoys being part of a busy team environment, we'd love to hear from you!
About New Zealand Couriers
Proudly NZ-owned and operated, for over sixty years our company has been driving ahead of the competition thanks to our passionate team and results-focused service delivery. Now with over 1,100 employees and 550 independent contractors in 25 locations across New Zealand, we are proud to serve the local communities we work in, to be New Zealand's most experienced courier provider, and to be the flagship brand of Freightways.
About the Role
Based at our Penrose Branch, our Customer Service Representatives play a vital role in delivering exceptional service to our customers while supporting the day-to-day operation of the branch. This is much more than a desk-based customer service role.
You'll be talking with customers, resolving freight enquiries, investigating issues, coordinating service outcomes and working closely with our Operations, Distribution, Fleet and Sales teams to keep freight moving. You'll also get hands-on experience assisting with problem freight, damage inspections, repacks and other operational activities when required.
We have part-time opportunities available working either Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 1:00pm or Monday to Friday, 1:30pm – 5:30pm.
These positions are 20 hours per week, with a rostered Saturday morning shift (4 hours) approximately once per month
The starting rate for this position is $27.10 per hour, paid weekly. We also offer free onsite parking and are conveniently located close to public transport links.
What You'll Be Doing
- Responding to customer enquiries via phone, email and on ocassion face to face.
- Tracking freight and providing customers with timely updates.
- Investigating and resolving service issues and customer queries.
- Processing bookings, freight requests and customer information accurately.
- Assisting with problem freight, including damaged, delayed or misdirected freight.
- Inspecting freight, completing repacks and reporting damage where required.
- Supporting operational activities including freight sorting, scanning and processing.
- Working collaboratively with Operations, Fleet, Distribution and Sales teams to achieve positive customer outcomes.
About You
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping people and isn't afraid to pick up the phone and have a conversation.
Ideally you will have:
- Previous experience in a customer service, retail, hospitality or other customer-facing role.
- A friendly, confident and professional communication style.
- Strong phone and interpersonal skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Excellent attention to detail and computer literacy.
- The ability to multitask and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
- A team-first mindset and a desire to make a real difference.
- Confidence working in both an office and warehouse environment.
Bubbly, outgoing personalities who enjoy building relationships and creating great customer experiences are encouraged to apply.
Why Join Us?
At New Zealand Couriers, you'll receive exposure to multiple parts of the business, helping you build a strong understanding of the freight and logistics industry.
As part of your induction and training, you'll have opportunities to:
- Learn how freight moves through our network.
- Work alongside operational teams.
- Get involved in freight sorting and processing activities.
- Spend time on the road with a courier to understand the customer journey from pickup through to delivery.
In return, we offer:
- A supportive and fun team environment.
- Full training and ongoing development.
- Career opportunities within Freightways.
- Free onsite parking.
- Convenient Penrose location, close to the train station.
- A varied role where no two days are the same.
At New Zealand Couriers, we have forged an entrepreneurial spirit in all that we do and are driven to get things done. If this sounds like you, apply now with your CV and a brief cover letter outlining why you'd be a great fit for the role.
The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of NZ working rights and undergo pre-employment screening, including a criminal history check and drug test.
